Luc Tuymans, Zlatko Kopljar, Ory Dessau - Mercy Politics - MER. Books 2023

This publication examines the intersection of art and politics, through the deeply engaged work and thought of two contemporary artists.

On December 8, 2022, Mercy, a joint exhibition by Zlatko Kopljar and Luc Tuymans, opened in Vilnius, Lithuania. The artists' shared history and their focus on historical narratives formed the basis of this exhibition in a city where history's ghosts are ever-present. The book Mercy (Politics) originates from this exhibition and includes in-depth interviews with the artists about the politics in their work and their political views, conducted before October 7, 2023. These insights, touching on topics from post-colonialism to the 'Woke movement,' gain additional significance in light of the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, which have deeply affected global moral and cultural perspectives, blurring the line between aesthetics and politics.
